You May Be Wondering What to Expect

There is a fair amount of mystery surrounding hypnosis, mainly due to entertainment (stage hypnosis) and media misinformation. As a hypnotherapist I try to take out the mystery out of hypnosis during the initial consultation.
What happens during each individual session is specific to the client’s needs.
Initial contact
The initial conversation / contact is generally preferred in person, but if this inconvenient then can be done by phone or video chat (WhatsApp video chat). This is the point at which we get to know each other, and I find out how I can help you, as well as answer any questions you have for me.
With hypnotherapy, you the client are the one who is in control. As a hypnotherapist, my role is to serve as your guide. You decide where we go and my role is just to get you there. To do so successfully, I have to be an excellent observer, ask the right questions, assess your needs and be able to explain everything to you, in an easy to understand way with as little jargon as possible.
Getting the right information at the start is what determines everything that happens during the hypnotherapy sessions.
At this stage, you will be offered an appointment, but if you prefer you can contact me at a later date to make the appointment. I WILL NOT put you under pressure to access my service. As I mentioned before, YOU are in control of the process. However, if hypnotherapy is likely to be successful, you will need to be fully committed to the process.
The Induction
The induction is the process where the client is led into that very relaxed high learning state known as hypnosis.
The entire time during the induction and while you are in that very relaxed state you are going to hear everything and be aware of everything that is taking place (you never lose control, and are able to terminate the session if you so desired).
You will find that being hypnotized is a very relaxing and a pleasurable experience.
There are a number of methods that can be used during an induction. The method depends on feedback given by the client. This takes into account the different ways in which people learn and process information. During the first part of our session, I try to understand what kind of stimuli and language you are most likely to respond do.
Some inductions are quite quick. Others may take 15 or 20 minutes, and is entirely dependant on the clients responses and needs.
Once the initial induction is complete, I use some short tests to determine how deep the client is. In many cases I will use some techniques that allow the client to enter a deeper level of trance if needed (deeper is not always better dependant on what we are trying to achieve with hypnotherapy).
The Therapy
This is where the “change work” takes place. This is where we go through the process needed to help you with pain management, weight release, becoming a non-smoker, overcoming fear of public speaking or something else that we agreed to work on during our initial induction (or subsequent meetings. To be clear, you will not come in seeking to improve your job performance and walk out with the uncontrollable urge to go on a diet. The goal will be clear from the outset and 100% client driven.
Keep in mind, I’m just your guide as you explore your subconscious mind.
In most cases, with your permission, I provide a post hypnotic suggestion (PHS) that is a trigger to give you a tool for your use once you have left.
Quite frequently, these triggers given to allow clients to increase their level of relaxation or confidence (e.g. pressing your forefinger and thumb together or tapping the back of your hand).
Transition to Wakeful Awareness
The final portion of the session, is to simply bring you out of your trance. This is a gentle, orderly process and not done in any hurry. Because hypnosis is so relaxing and enjoyable, many clients want to stay right there. Once you are wide awake, I’m there to welcome you back, check in with you and answer any questions you have.
One aspect of hypnotherapy is just how quickly positive change can be manifested in people’s lives. In many cases, one, two or three session of hypnosis is all that is needed to address a specific issue. Most issues are successfully addressed in fewer than four sessions.
